Letter No.6 Hello Animals!
"You've got to read children's books to Booboo every morning!"
So says mom with angry voice.
According to my wife,
My engagement with Booboo has been too less intellectual than it should be.
So I decided to read him books about animals every day.
His recent favorite is "Hello Animals."
Every page features an animal that is making a unique sound.
For example, the first page depicts a panda, which eats bamboo leaves with a crunch munch sound.
As I was rummaging through a drawer full of children's books that were given from friends and family,
I bumped into a Japanese version of Hello Animals; "Konnichiwa Dobutsutachi (it means literally hello animals)."
It obviously has a different taste.
At the center of the book cover sits an angry monkey
glaring at you as if he was telling the reader
"don't you dare take my bananas away from me, ever! "
As you open the pages, you see horrendous zoomed-in photos of diverse animals.
Wondering how Bubu will like this,
I started to run the pages and read the book to him.
At first, he was in for a shock.
It was his first encounter with wild animals, in a non-animation, live action way.
"Oh gosh, what am I seeing.
What happened to my cute little animals! "
His face was telling me that he was confused by the stark gap between his cute little friends he had been enjoying interactions with and the new reality he is now facing.
Steve Jobs once said in his Stanford Commencement address,
"Sometime, life is going to hit you in the head with a brick"
That was exactly happening to Bubu for the first time in his life, right at that moment.
As I went for the third round, he started to giggle and enjoy the real animal faces.
He seemed to have overcome his fear of the unknown and learned his way to interact with his new friends.
It's always fun and satisfying watching your baby develop.
Oh, wait. Isn't this VERY intellectual?
I've got to report to my wife about this.
To Be Continued...
