Letter No.18 Elephant!

From one of Bubu's favorite children's books
called HUG

When someone asks me what animal I like the most,

I would answer almost instantly; it's the elephant!

I don't know when and why I developed this particular fondness.

Maybe because I liked Dumbo, one of Disney's early animated classics, when I was a toddler.

To me, the image of Dumbo's mom holding the lovable baby Dumbo with the sentimental background music “Baby Mine” strikes as an epitome of motherhood.

Or maybe because when I was a school boy,

I got an elephant-type out of a popular Japanese zoological fortune-telling called “Dobutsu Uranai”,

that categorizes you into different animal types

and tells you your personality traits based on that type.  I remember what it told me about my personality was mostly accurate.

Anyhow, my consistent love for elephants seems to function as a major force for picking something for Bubu, too.

A week ago, when I was shopping at MUJI pushing a Bubu-filled stroller,

I couldn't help but noticing an elephant-print baby T-shirt. It's got a big elephant on the front!

After a small consultation with my wife, we decided to buy a T-shirt with a little more modest-sized elephant print.

Today Bubu is wearing just that.

This afternoon, I took Bubu out for grocery shopping.

Though the supermarket was only within a 10 minute walk, I put a hat on his head for fear of any sunburn.

Before I knew it, I was picking an elephant cap. It's got eyes, ears and nose.

Come to think of it, when Bubu first came out from the hospital,

he was covered with a swaddling blanket full of elephant prints.

That elephant blanket still remains our most frequent "go to" blanket in our daily Bubu routine.

Oh holy mother of elephants! Bubu's
 life is full of elephants.

Get a grip dad, you cannot force your own elephant favoritism on your baby!

Then I saw something hung from the baby stroller.

It was a mosquito repellent I bought at a local pharmacy in my hometown few days ago.

Sorry Bubu, it's hopeless.
Daddy cannot resist elephants.

To be continued...
