Letter No.22 A Simple Guide to Double-Bathing

You push the button, and voala!

you have a bathtub full of water

with the perfect temperature of 37° C

You never appreciate this pure convenience

when you are living in Japan

A Japanese friend of mine who now lives in the US

reminded me of this the other day.

May this incredible modern technology eternally blessed!

I don't mean to brag this,

but I think my skills to bathe my little Bubu

has seen a remarkable improvement over months.

I call it an art of parent-baby double bathing.

Here's an easy step-by-step guide to the double-bathing:

Gather supplies like soap and washcloth on the bathtub rim while making funny faces in order not to bore your baby

Take off your own clothes first and take off your baby's clothes while making sure that the curtain in the living room is fully closed to avoid unnecessary exposure

Take a shower to clean your own body in 20 seconds before your baby cries

Soak your body and your little one's in the bathwater slowly and nicely

Gently wash your baby's face, head and body for 10 minutes, and quickly dip your own face in the bath water to wash it

Never forget easy-to-miss rash-prone areas like neck, wrists, and behind the ears of the baby, while rubbing your own chest, arms and back against the wall of the bathtub in the soapy water

Play with the baby to their heart's content for bonding for another 5 minutes

Remove the baby from the bathtub and never care how drenched your body is

Hurry to the towel corner on tiptoe while making sure that you don’t flood the floor

Wipe the baby with towel and add the finishing touch by applying 5 different kinds of moisturizing lotion on baby’s skin for 15 minutes

The hardest part is

how to wipe your own naked drenched body

while rushing to the towel carrying a wet baby.

As of now, I have not developed my skills for it yet.

I'm counting on the development of

any transformative, leapfrog technology

to overcome this major hurdle for parents

who like to bath with your own infant.

To be continued...
